I was born in New Jersey, and lived the early years of my life there. It was there, and in nearby Pennsylvania, that I developed a love for the wild woods. When I was eight, I moved to Florida. The oppressive heat and humidity instilled in me a deep appreciation for air conditioning and books.
After high school, I headed north to Georgia, where I studied engineering at Georgia Tech. I graduated, built a career, had a family; an outwardly typical American life ... but there was a restlessness in me. I would not stay in one place for long. From Georgia, I moved to Colorado, and then to Seattle, Washington. I've traveled a lot, much of it by car, and the places I've been often appear in my writing.
I now live in the Appalachian foothills of North Carolina. It's a good compromise, all things considered. I read. I write. Sometimes I work in my garden, and always I am grateful for the amazing people in my life.
